Holiday Love is written with a very caring Virgoan attention to detail. It tells the story of what might be a romance burgeoning between Freya (a hairdresser) and Joshua (a mechanic), who have known each other and been friends since childhood. The narrative is very straightforward, with no unexpected dark twists and turns. However, I am a little suspicious of Freya, who seems to be an unusually naïve young woman. (I find it hard to believe that someone at her stage in life can notice so much, yet understand it so incompletely).

Joshua is a very decent, responsible young man, who carries condoms with him wherever he goes (he seems to have "an endless supply" of them) and always drives with due care. When he meets Freya entirely by chance on a camping holiday (which they have both prepared for meticulously), he finds himself increasingly attracted to her, but is a little hesitant as she is the sister of his best friend (who is also his workmate).

However, feelings can be strong enough to override the good sense of even the most sensible people, and both Freya and Joshua end up making very silly, uncharacteristic mistakes, which draw them closer together.

The characters in this novel are all extremely decent, hardworking, responsible people who don't intentionally do things to harm others. Reading about them makes me like the sort of horrendous train wreck of a person who was Christopher Columbus. (I'm not as bad as he was, but compared to them, I'm not nice at all.)
