Book Review: The Brightest Fell by Nupur Chowdhury

Book Review

Basic Details:

Book Title: The Brightest Fell
Subtitle:
Author: Nupur Chowdhury
Genre: Fiction/Suspense
Part of a series? No
Order in series:
Best read after earlier books in series?
Available: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/48676844-the-brightest-fell

Overall score:

I scored this book 5/5

Short Summary of the book:

In this book, we meet a brilliant young scientist by the name of Jehan Fasih. Jehan detests violence and has tried to create a drug which will remove the violent streak in humanity. However, the drug has side-effects and is far from perfected when the government wants to force him to put it to use on alleged terrorists. What follows is a story of intrigue, suspense and betrayal. Jehan is forced to take matters in his own hands and in doing so betray his mentor. Can he succeed and avoid bloodshed, misuse of powers and tyranny?
This book is also a story about love, loyalty and the goodness in people.

What I liked about the book:

This was a fabulous book which made it difficult to put it down. The start appeared boring. Boy, was I mistaken, within the first few pages suspense and intrigue picked up and I was no longer able to put it down. There went my Saturday morning, I only got out of bed around one pm, having finished the book.

What I didn’t like about the book:

I absolutely loved the book.

My favourite bits in the book:

I loved how Jehan was able to manipulate those who were used to manipulating others and come out on top.

My least favourite bits in the book:

There were no bits I disliked.

Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?

As far as I am aware this book stands on its own. However, the author has also written another book, ‘A flight of broken wings’, which was another one I really enjoyed reading.

What books could this be compared to and why?

It is difficult to compare this book to any others. The book contains bits of the best in a lot of other books and I can certainly recommend it.

Recommendation:

In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:

Children
No
Young Adult
Possibly
Adult
Yes

If you like stories about intrigue, love, loyalty, suspense and betrayal, this book may be the book for you.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Book Description by Author:

When nations are on the brink of war, to be innocent is not enough...

Fifteen years ago, Jehan Fasih designed a drug that could curb the instinct for violence (and rob the taker of their free will). Fifteen minutes ago, someone blew up the metro station to get their hands on his brainchild.

Jehan must make a decision, and time is running out.

Abhijat Shian and his sister, Rito, lost their jobs, and their family's reputation, over the course of a single week.

The reason? Their father's trusted protégé, Jehan Fasih, betrayed him and embroiled their family in one of the biggest corruption scandals the country has ever known.

The Shian siblings' quest for revenge soon turns into a murky web of confusing motives and divided loyalties.

Is Fasih a genius or a madman? Is their father truly innocent or is there a trail of deceit and betrayal within the hallways of their childhood home?

The Brightest Fell is a gripping tale of loyalty, treason, corruption, patriotism, and political intrigue.

About the Author:

Nupur Chowdhury is the author of A Flight of Broken Wings and The Brightest Fell. Apart from novels, she enjoys writing poetry and the occasional short story. She was four when she started writing. Now, some 20 years later, it’s more an addiction than a hobby.

Nupur likes coffee, street food, fanfiction, and sleep. She dislikes yogurt, slow internet, unnecessary cliffhangers, and being woken up in the morning.

You can find her on Wattpad, Twitter, and Amazon. And if you can’t, it’s probably because she’s busy sleeping.

With only two weeks before Nora leaves the country under diplomatic immunity, Aydan struggles to piece together her mother’s questionable past.

Two days into Aydan’s investigation Nora announces she’s leaving early, and Aydan’s director gives her an ultimatum: Solve the case before Nora escapes, or face imprisonment for dereliction of duty. Meanwhile, an unknown enemy is stalking Aydan’s friends and the threats are escalating.

When time runs out and prison walls loom, claustrophobic Aydan must make an unthinkable choice: Sacrifice her friends, or lose her freedom forever.

About the Author:

By profession, I’m a technical writer, computer geek, and ex-interior designer. I’m good at two out of three of these things. I had the sense to quit the one I sucked at.

To deal with my mid-life crisis, I also write adventure novels featuring a middle-aged female protagonist, Aydan Kelly. And I kickbox.

This seemed more productive than indulging in more typical mid-life crisis activities like getting a divorce, buying a Harley Crossbones, and cruising across the country picking up men in sleazy bars. Especially since it’s winter most of the months of the year here.

It’s much more comfortable to sit at my computer. And hell, Harleys are expensive. Come to think of it, so are beer and gasoline.

Oh, and I still love my husband. There’s that. I’ll stick with the writing.

Escorting Canada’s top weapons developers to an international summit should be just another stressful day in the life of secret agent Aydan Kelly. But Aydan’s routine mission becomes a nightmare when she’s accused of an attack on the delegates and the theft of a classified weapon.

As evidence mounts against her, Aydan’s investigation suggests she might have unconsciously committed the crime. Burned by her own Department and hunted by MI6, CIA, and FBI, Aydan must decide: When her own mind might betray her, who can she trust?

Overall score:

I scored this book 5/5

Short Summary of the book:

Aidan Kelly still dreams of going back to the quiet life of a bookkeeper but there is no going back. She is forced to go undercover once more and is forced to decide where her priorities lie when John Kane’s son (he didn’t know he had) is abducted. Instead of safeguarding her own future, she decides to do all to find her friend’s son knowing full well he may already be dead. What will this do to the relationship between her and John?

What I liked about the book:

I loved this book as much as I did the first ten. Aidan’s principles force her to choose to save a child even if it means she herself may be forced to go to jail. Not a mean fete for someone who suffers with claustrophobia.

Neglecting her undercover assignment may cost more than just her freedom. When the gunrunner she’s been baiting threatens her loved ones, Aydan must choose between protecting them herself or entrusting their safety to geriatric amateur vigilantes while she closes in on the killer.

How much will she risk for a child who may already be dead?

But all is not as it seems and as in the other books, Aidan comes across a lot of surprises. Surprises she can’t even tell her boss about.
