Overall score:

I scored this book 5/5

Short Summary of the book:

This is a book for those of us who would like to have some advice on how to recruit staff in a way which helps you find the right person for your business; a person also who would likely remain with the business for a significant time.

What I liked about the book:

Although this is set out like a textbook, the book does not have a textbook feel to it. It makes an interesting read which gives several bits of good advice.

What I didn’t like about the book:

I may not have agreed with all the statements in the book, but I enjoyed reading the book nonetheless and have found several good tips for future recruitment in it.

My favourite bits in the book:

The many examples helped to make this an enjoyable read.

My least favourite bits in the book:

The main thing I did not agree with in this book is the use of personality tests. I’ve always been warned not to use them in recruitment. They are better placed in helping you manage the staff you already have.

Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?

I believe this author has written several other non-fiction books.

What books could this be compared to and why?

Recommendation:

In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:

Children

No

Young Adult

Probably not

Adult

Yes, especially if you have a job in management or in charge of recruitment in your business

If you like to know more about good ways to recruit the right person, this book may be the book for you.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Book Description by Author:

Don't rely on instincts alone.

Hiring. Is. King. The lesson seems so basic. Yet time after time, good companies stumble and lose their stride — just when they were poised for rapid growth. Why? Because their leaders treated hiring as a tedious chore. They posted an ad hoc ad. Took the first person with the right skills. Hired for immediate needs, rather than future flourishing.

In Hire Smart from the Start, Dave Carvajal distills lessons gained from 20 years in the trenches, building out and staffing two enormously successful Internet startups and helping firms like Tumblr, Buddy Media, and Shutterstock land the talent they need to reach their greatest potential.

Whether you’re a high-tech entrepreneur taking a startup public, or a food truck vendor with a concept that’s taking off, this book offers a proven formula to help you:

Find candidates whose values and working style fit your business Spot the 5 types of applicants you should never, ever hire Motivate reach candidates to leave their jobs and take a chance on your vision Develop meaningful incentives that make people stay And more

Accelerate success: hire smart from the start. This book shows you how.

Subtitle: The Men of River City Book 2

Author: Nola Marie

Genre: Romance

Part of a series? Yes

Order in series: 2

Best read after earlier books in series? No, can be read as stand-alone, but better if read after the first in the series.

Available: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/54856188-protecting-his-night

Overall score:

I scored this book 4/5

Short Summary of the book:

In this book, we meet Rory, the older brother of Jax (the main character in the first book in the series). Rory is involved with the mafia and sent the love of his life away 10 years earlier to keep her safe.

However, Layla returns to Riverside after her dad dies and works in one of Rory’s clubs as a waitress. She is keen to remain under the radar after escaping Damien with her young daughter. What will happen once Rory finds out?

What I liked about the book:

It was nice to read how this mafia strong man had a soft side. This already showed itself in the first book, but was even more obvious in this book.

What I didn’t like about the book:

Like in the first book, there were several grammatical errors and duplication or missing of words making it difficult to read at times. This did not in the slightest take away from the storytelling and I kept turning the pages to find out what would happen next.

My favourite bits in the book:

Where Rory finds out Bella is his daughter.

My least favourite bits in the book:

Only the fact the book needs some further editing. It’s a great book nonetheless.

Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?

This is the second book in this series and I suspect there will be more to follow.

What books could this be compared to and why?

Several books share the same ‘one chapter per viewpoint’ characteristic.

Recommendation:

In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:

Children

No

Young Adult

Possibly

Adult

Yes

If you like romance this book may be the book for you.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Overall score:

I scored this book 4/5

Short Summary of the book:

Twins Zoey and Zane have been best friends with Jax since they met him. Actually, Zoey has been in love with Jax ever since they met at the age of 8. Only at graduation night do they admit this fact to each other. Friends and family have always seen it. Life is great for the three-some until Zoey is attacked in New York. Will they be able to help her heal?

What I liked about the book:

The story was great and kept me turning the pages. The storytelling was good.

What I didn’t like about the book:

The book still needs some significant editing. There were several grammatical errors, duplication of words or missing words. This did, however, not take away from the great storytelling.

My favourite bits in the book:

The time where Zoey and Jax finally realised their feelings were mutual.

My least favourite bits in the book:

The painful separation Zoey, Jax and Zane went through.

Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?

I understand the author has written several books. I have also read the second book in this series.

What books could this be compared to and why?

Interestingly, this book uses the same writing style of separate chapters for different points of view as I employed in my books. The chapters are set out showing the viewpoint from either Jax or Zoey’s side.

Recommendation:

In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:

Young Adult

Adult

Book Description by Author:

For too many years, Prudence Aldrich has been numbing the pain in her life with random sexual encounters. Her marriage to cold, self-centered Nick is, not surprisingly, on the rocks. But after several dangerous experiences with strangers, Prudence finally realizes she needs therapy to stop her self-destructive behavior, and so she checks into the Serenity Hills rehab center.

Prudence blames herself for her irresponsible behavior and is filled with self-loathing. She’s convinced she is completely at fault for Nick’s manipulative attitude and believes with therapy, she can return their relationship to its idyllic beginnings. However, her therapist and the other members of her rehab group see the person behind the pain. As Prudence learns more about herself and the reasons for her behavior, including startling revelations about her childhood, she begins to understand the basis for her lack of sexual self-respect. She also learns she is not entirely to blame for the failure of her marriage. With the positive reinforcement of everyone at Serenity Hills, Prudence learns not to define herself by her past. But moving forward would mean letting go of Nick for good, and Prudence isn’t sure she can.
