Short
Summary of the book:
Meet Prudence Aldrich, a young mother with a
big problem stemming from abuse during her childhood. Not willing to accept her
failings, she resolves to do something about it and tackles her sex addiction.
Prue is a fixer and caregiver. She wants to
solve problems for others at the expense of her happiness.
Serenity Hills poses many challenges for her
and Prue is unsure if she will be able to get through them. But, with the
support of supportive fellow ‘inmates’, she perseveres. Will she be able to
save her marriage? Will she still want to hold onto her husband when she comes
through the counselling?
What
I liked about the book:
The writing style is very good and the author
manages to involve the reader in the story. Emotional, harrowing and
infuriating at times, I loved this book.
What
I didn’t like about the book:
There wasn’t anything I didn’t enjoy in the
book.
My
favourite bits in the book:
Where Prue found support from her friends and
the other patients at Serenity Hills.
My
least favourite bits in the book:
The book was good in its entirety.
Any
further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?
I believe the author is working on a sequel
to this book, ‘A Dress the Color of the Moon’. I can’t wait to see what happens
Prue next.
What
books could this be compared to and why?
This book is a survivor story. A beautifully
written story of how someone can work to overcome the abuse in childhood and beyond.

Book
Description by Author:
For too many years, Prudence Aldrich has been
numbing the pain in her life with random sexual encounters. Her marriage to
cold, self-centered Nick is, not surprisingly, on the rocks. But after several
dangerous experiences with strangers, Prudence finally realizes she needs
therapy to stop her self-destructive behavior, and so she checks into the
Serenity Hills rehab center.
Prudence blames herself for her irresponsible
behavior and is filled with self-loathing. She’s convinced she is completely at
fault for Nick’s manipulative attitude and believes with therapy, she can
return their relationship to its idyllic beginnings. However, her therapist and
the other members of her rehab group see the person behind the pain. As
Prudence learns more about herself and the reasons for her behavior, including
startling revelations about her childhood, she begins to understand the basis
for her lack of sexual self-respect. She also learns she is not entirely to
blame for the failure of her marriage. With the positive reinforcement of
everyone at Serenity Hills, Prudence learns not to define herself by her past.
But moving forward would mean letting go of Nick for good, and Prudence isn’t
sure she can.
