Overall score:

I scored this book 5/5

Short Summary of the book:

At the end of the last book, Aydan learned her mother had not died in a car crash many years earlier but was instead still very much alive. Nora wants to re-establish their relationship or is there more to it? Aydan is tasked with two missions in this book. The first to investigate her mother and the second to recruit John Kane back into the company. Stemp’s parents also make another entrance and help out, their son now aware of their other job and vice versa.

What I liked about the book:

I loved this book as much as I did the first thirteen. Will Aydan succeed on her missions? Will John return to the agency? Or is Aydan able to negotiate a better deal?

What I didn’t like about the book:

There is nothing in the book I didn’t like.

My favourite bits in the book:

Too many to count, I loved the book.

My least favourite bits in the book:

There were no least favourite bits. The book makes you want to read on and not stop after the next.

Any further books in the series? Any more planned by this author?

That is the good news, there are 14 more in the series already and I can’t wait for no. 15. So far, this one appears to still be awaited.

What books could this be compared to and why?

Recommendation:

In summary, I would recommend this book for the following readers:

Children

Young Adult

Adult

If you like a tongue-in-cheek spy mystery this book may be the book for you.

I look forward to reading more books by this author.

Book Description by Author:

…If a kickass middle-aged bookkeeper got sucked into a spy’s life…

Secret agent Aydan Kelly’s supposedly-dead mother Nora has resurfaced after thirty years, and the chain of command assigns Aydan to investigate her for treason. With only two weeks before Nora leaves the country under diplomatic immunity, Aydan struggles to piece together her mother’s questionable past.

Two days into Aydan’s investigation Nora announces she’s leaving early, and Aydan’s director gives her an ultimatum: Solve the case before Nora escapes, or face imprisonment for dereliction of duty. Meanwhile, an unknown enemy is stalking Aydan’s friends and the threats are escalating.

When time runs out and prison walls loom, claustrophobic Aydan must make an unthinkable choice: Sacrifice her friends, or lose her freedom forever.

Thrillers with humour and heart

Contains coarse language, moderate violence, and sexuality. The story can stand alone but will be more enjoyable if read in order.

If Janet Evanovich’s quirky humour met Robert Ludlum’s taut thrillers, the Never Say Spy series would be their love child: racy, fun, and action-packed!

About the Author:

By profession, I’m a technical writer, computer geek, and ex-interior designer. I’m good at two out of three of these things. I had the sense to quit the one I sucked at.

To deal with my mid-life crisis, I also write adventure novels featuring a middle-aged female protagonist, Aydan Kelly. And I kickbox.

This seemed more productive than indulging in more typical mid-life crisis activities like getting a divorce, buying a Harley Crossbones, and cruising across the country picking up men in sleazy bars. Especially since it’s winter most of the months of the year here.

It’s much more comfortable to sit at my computer. And hell, Harleys are expensive. Come to think of it, so are beer and gasoline.

Oh, and I still love my husband. There’s that. I’ll stick with the writing.
